Saturday night saw both Oakley teams playing their last group games in this year's Cusheon Trophy and, as previously, the teams had contrasting results. Oakley "A" began steadily and although they matched Howard Park 4-4 at 5 ends and 10-9 at 10 ends, they had at times been behind. After that, they gradually pulled away and the Oakley team of Alice Lovett, Ric Newson, Bob Goodyear and Ashley Nethercliffe won 29-16 and record their fourth successive victory (including a walk-over) along with a place in the semi-final on 7 April. The "B" team did not fare quite so well. AWRE were quicker at the start and at 15 ends the team of Vera Rhodes, John Yarrall, Malcolm Grime and John Wilson were 6-22 down. After that the tide turned and saw them win the last six ends 11-3, resulting in a loss of 17-25. Regrettably, having lost all four games, the B team will not progress.

Overall the competition has provided good competition for both teams. For the 16 “B” team positions, there were 11 players with John Yarrall the only omni-present. For the “A” team, including the walk-over, there were just 7 players selected including Alice Lovett, Nicole Rodgers, Heather Statham and Ashley Nethercliffe; Bob Goodyear played all games supported by Ric Newson and Fred Norris.
