Tonight at Loddon Vale, a changed Oakley team took on AWRE looking for a place in the Final of the Ambler/Fuller Trophy introduced this year as a replacement outdoor club competition for the Cusheon Trophy. Having been finalists in the previous five Cusheon Finals the team was keen to reach a similar level in the new event. They began well taking a 5-0 lead after 3 ends which by 9 ends was extended to 10-3. However AWRE took the next 5 ends to tie the game at 10 ends and at 17 ends scores were again level at 12-12. A single saw oakley regain the lead but a two from AWRE saw them take the lead for the first time on the 19th end. Oakley, however tied up the match on the 20th end. A two on the final end was enough to give the Oakley team of Lorna Devonish, Sean Lassman, Malcolm Grime and Steve Devonish a narrrow win in a tightly fought contest where neither side scored more than a two. The Final is scheduled to be played on the 4th April against Old Basing who beat Basingstoke Town in the other semi-final.
