After their nail biting win at Alton Social yesterday, the Oakley triple of Terry Heath, Ric Newson and Ashley Nethercliffe travelled this evening to play Cove in the Area Final of the County Triples at Alton. The Cove team comprising current Middleton Cup players Daniel and Carl Taylor and the highly experienced Glenn Read got off to a flying start with a six on the first end and by 7 ends, after picking up a four, they had a substantial lead of 12-3. By now the Alton spectators, most of whom seemed to be rooting for the BDBA club, had written Oakley off and although Oakley won 3 of the next 4 ends they still trailed 6-13. Then the momentum changed. Oakley scored successively two, five and two to take the lead 15-13 and then withstood a determined effort from Cove to win by 17-16. The Club's congratulations go to all three players and we wish them luck on Sunday when they play in the County Last Eights at Atherley, a special occasion for Terry and Ashley for whom it is the first time they have reached the quarter finals in a Championship event.
