The wall to wall sunshine in Sidmouth continued for Day 3 of the Club tour as did Martin's problem with birds being attracted to his room. This time, however, it was not a live pigeon but a cockerel some unknown person had moved from the dining room. The culprits have yet to be identified but, when they are, they can expect "Black Marks" from Margaret. Our game today involved a short journey along some picturesque and very narrow lanes to the Madeira Club in Exmouth. Traditionally a strong hold of Bowls in Devon, the club has excellent facilities and excellent players. Fortunately for Oakley their top internationals were not playing, so with 11 rinks playing, we lost by a similar score to the previous day. Oakley's best rink was Pat Goodall/Mary Turnbull, Diane Yarrell, Val Ryan and Spencer Kerley. Defeat was not hard to take as at tea time we were served delicious home baked scones with jam and cream. The inevitable debate occurred over whether to have the jam or cream on top. Tonight after Dinner the Town had failed to lay on for us any spectacular event so most members enjoyed a drink before retiring for an early night!
