Tonight Oakley's Ladies travelled to take on Camberley in the National Top Club Competition. With home advantage and having beaten Oakley's nemesis, Cove, in the last round, Camberley looked to be the favourites and when Oakley's Mary Varndell pulled out at the last minute Oakley's expectations were not high. With Nicole Rogers trailing 1-9 in the Singles our hopes went even lower. Nicole, however rallied and finally won 21-20 to give Oakley the point for the first discipline. The Fours, meanwhile, were going well and at 10 ends led 15-4 and although the Triples were 6-15 down, and the Pairs 14-19 the match was still in the balance. The Pairs over the second half of the game scored heavily and so eventually Oakley won by 3 disciplines to 1. Oakley scores: Nicole Rogers won 21-20; Shirley Ball and Val Ryan won 22-16; Chris Williams, Heather Statham and Alice Lovett lost 17-20; Sue Dixon, Sandra Lee, Angie Rowe and Janie Vickers won 28-10. In the penultimate round before Leamington, Oakley will be at home to Milton Park Ladies. The Club wishes them every success.
