Having spent the whole of its existence regarding the Whitchurch League as a training ground and entering balanced teams, Oakley decided that, for the 2015 season, it would ,for the first time, select a team with a view to winning the Division 1 title.  We came very close in 2016 but tonight, after being in pole position for most of the season, the Oakley Buzzards went into their final league game at Whitchurch needing 2.5 points to pip last year's winners, Howard Park, to the title.  With a small squad and with several of his regular ladies off representing the Northern Area in the County Inter Area Trophy, Captain, Ric Newson inspired his team to a 5-0 victory.  He was helped by the home team turning up a player short, so immediately giving Oakley 2 of the points they needed, but the two triples that played both shot into early leads and the outcome was never in doubt with Oakley winning 49-14.  Only those playing/present tonight are shown in the photo but winning the championship involved playing 18 league games and congratulations go to the whole squad of players on a special achievement.
