Little Meadow

Overlooking Little Meadow Overlooking Little Meadow

Overton Parish Council purchased Little Meadow (which is adjacent to the cemetery on Kingsclere Road) in 2005 with the original intention of using it as a new cemetery. The height of the water table meant that this was not possible and so the Parish Council invited the Overton Biodiversity Society (OBS) to develop the area of land a as a wildlife meadow for the benefit of parishioners of all ages.

With the help of a grant from the Local Heritage Initiative, the OBS developed the area to favour wildlife and to provide a space for all to enjoy.

The work was carried out by volunteers as a community initiative and included planting of hedgerows and low borders, planting and sowing wildflowers, making a hard standing area with seating and “human-sundial” and providing wheelchair access and information boards.

Little Meadow was finally opened on 6th May 2007
