England Women’s cricket had to withstand a withering attack from their coach following another dismal defeat at the hands of their current nemesis Australia recently. It was particularly noticeable that fitness was an issue for our girls.

Perhaps they should have looked at what happens in Overton – probably the healthiest village in the country! With over 30 acres of sports field managed by local charity Overton Recreation Centre the variety of activities on offer is fantastic and this has resulted in more than 2000 adults and children playing sport every month.

Sixteen year old Alice Monaghan has been honing her cricket skills since the age of six and is already a regular in the young women’s Hampshire team.  And Alice has been selected for the England Women’s Regional Development Squad once again where she will no doubt bowl the selectors over with her energetic fielding and fast action! She featured on BBC South last week as the England Women’s team dropped into Hampshire CC for a coaching session. “I shall be forever grateful to Overton for encouraging me to participate in youth cricket – their facilities are great and the support has been fantastic” said Alice.
