5th August - Clanfield 3 - 0 OUFC

Saturday 5th August - Away

The 1st team went down 3-0 to Clanfield FC in the season opener, yet the result doesn’t give a fair representation on our performance. We started very well, we kept things tight at the back, moved the ball and created a number of chances that maybe on another day and another pitch (the surface, whilst same for both teams didn’t really help us in the final 3rd) we would have put away or at the very least tested the keeper.

We trailed 2–0 at HT with Clanfield taking their chances and being more clinical in front of goal than us. 2nd half again, we started well maintaining our shape but were forcing the final ball so didn’t create as many chances as I felt our play deserved and were 3 nil down on 60 minutes.

We made our first change of the afternoon on 60 minutes with Johnie Gurney replacing Ollie Bode which gave us a bit of pace up front and Johnnie made some good runs in behind the Clanfield defence, created a couple of chances but without really testing the Clanfield keeper.

Jacob Burrows, making his OUFC 1st team debut came on for Charlie Manning on 70 minutes, did well in the middle of the park with Kirk Smith © moving to the back.

Steve Price also making his OUFC debut came on for Kieron Fuller on 75, held the ball up well but didn’t have enough time to really put his stamp on the game.

We go again this Saturday as we are on the road again this time away to Infinity FC who had a great result on Saturday beating Colden Common 4-1. Infinity are much improved from last season so will be another test for us but one where we have an opportunity to secure our first points of the season.
