WELWYN HATFIELD LEAGUE DIVISION 1

In July, the last month of the Greens campaign they unluckily only managed 2 points against Datchworth Green with an overall shot loss of 35-34. This was followed by two good victories taking 6 points each from Welwyn Woods and BSP. Unfortunately the last three games against WGC Knights and WGC Crusaders (twice) only achieved 2 points.

However after all other games had been played Parkside Greens finished runners up in Division 1, so an excellent season overall.

WELWYN HATFIELD LEAGUE DIVISION 2

July for the Woods resulted in only 8 points from 3 games against Sele Farm, Harlequins and Shire Park. However they gained 18 points from their last 3 games during August against Sele Farm (walk over), Welwyn Wanderers and De Havilland, resulting in 4th position in the Division 2 league gaining 6 more points than in 2017. So another excellent season.

WELWYN HATFIELD JOHN BROWN TROPHY/JUBILEE CUP

Both the Greens and the Woods were defeated at the semi-final stage of both cups but should be very proud of their achievements this season.

WELWYN HATFIELD COMPETITIONS

The competitions have reached their final stages, with triple teams from both the Greens and the Woods just losing out in the semi-finals, but Alan Croshaw has reached the finals in both the Jock Hunter Singles Trophy and the Open Singles to be played on 15th September.

EAST HERTS LEAGUE

The East Herts Men's team continued strongly gaining 4 points each from Rosehill Otters, Welwyn Muntjacs and Buntingford Bulls. They took the full 6 points from Standon and Puckeridge, Cuffley Hawks (walk over) and Rosehill Kingfishers. They achieved 62 points for the season out of a possible total of 72, which has seen them top of Division 3 and winning promotion to Division 2 in only their second season. What an excellent job by all.

LADIES

The Ladies Friday League ended with a very creditable 4th in the section.

The St Albans ladies friendly had to be posponed due to rain but hopefully can be rearranged for September.

CLUB FRIENDLIES

We played 4 weekend friendlies during July and August with 2 draws, 1 loss and 1win.

CLUB COMPETITIONS

The club triples got underway on the 6th August with the final being played on Friday 31st with Colin England, Edie Burke and Alan Croshaw running out champions over Jan Croshaw, Derek Robertson and Billy Draycott.

The Memorial Trophy had joint winners this year with Brain Clarke and Malcolm Cragg sharing the honours. Derek Robertson won the spider, but the real winner is the Isabel Hospice with a donation from this tournament of £100.

The club finals were played over the weekend of the 1st and 2nd September, which was well supported by our members as usual, and with glorious sunshine the finals were a great success.

The winners and runners up are as follows: Novices - Bill Fuller (runner up Tony Catchpole); Pairs - Alan Croshaw/Colin Jones (runners up Colin England/Elsie Anderson); Two Woods - Colin Jones (runner up Elsie Anderson); 4-3-2-1 - Colin Jones (runner up Mick Looney); Ladies Singles - Penny Jones (runner up Marjorie Lewis); Gents Singles - Alan Croshaw (runner up Billy Draycott)
