The Morning session was the Finals of the Ivan Robb Memorial Trophy and the Triples.

The First title resolved was the Ivan Robb Memorial Trophy, which saw Dave Wildman, hoping to defend the trophy he won in 2019, playing Brian LeMarquer from Waterlooville.

The 1st 5ends saw each bowler getting to grips with the rink and Brian leading by 1 shot.

From that point, Brian found his range a lot better than Dave and ran out an easy winner by 21-3 7ends later.

The Triples was between Milton Park’s Trevor Ball, Mick Molloy & Andy McKain who were taking on Rowner’s Dave Webb, Bill Ross & Graeme Coles.

After 14ends, the game was tied 13each, whereupon the Rowner trio then picked up 5 shots on the next 3, meaning that the Park Trio had pick up 5 on the last to take the match into an extra end. With his penultimate wood Andy drove the jack into the ditch but was only lying 2shots. With his last wood, Graeme drew shot which was removed by Andy’s last bowl but with his wood not stopping on the green, they only managed to record 2shots, leaving the Rowner trio winners by 3shots.

- The Rowner trio were very fortunate to get through to the final as, in the Semi’s they were 9shots down with 3 ends to play against a Bridgemary trio. But the game was turned on its head on the 16th end as Rowner picked up the “Hot Shot” maximum of 9 to level the game. That left the Bridgemary trio shell-shocked and Rowner picked up 4shots on the last 2ends to take the game.

In the Afternoon session, the remaining three competitions were played, Singles, Over 60’s Singles and Pairs.

The Singles, between Alexandra’s Steve Feilder and Star&Crescent’s Simon Filippi. was the first match to be concluded. A hard fought saw the scores level 14all after 15ends. At that point, Simon pulled ahead to be 19-14 up after 18ends and then completed the win on the next end with an excellent bowl to lie the 2required that Steve couldn’t beat with his final bowl.

This was soon followed by the conclusion of the Over 60’s Singles where Fareham’s Charlie Bailey met Lee-on-the-Solent’s Martin Ellis.

The 1st 5ends saw both bowlers feeling each other out but then Charlie showed his greater finals experience to move into a 16-5 lead after 15ends. Martin fought back on the next 3ends and picked up 8shots to reduce the deficit to 3shots. But the next 4ends saw Charlie’s experience tell as he took the game 21-15 after 22ends.

The Pairs, which saw Andy McKain back on the green, this time with Dave Brown as his partner, takin on Priory’s Martin Eggleton and Clive Carter, was the last title won.

It was the Priory duo who found the rink much to their liking as they moved into a 20shot lead by the 12th end.

Try as they might, the Milton pair couldn’t cut the lead enough and were left searching for big shots to tip the game their way. They shook hands after the 20th end with the Priory duo leading 28-10.
