Leagues and Competitions

Throughout the season the club runs two internal leagues and a selection of full-day and afternoon competitions. The club enters team(s) for the annual charity tournament organised by Hethersett Social Club Bowls Club and, plays in the AGE Concern League. In 2026 the Club plans to enter the Waveney Triples Tournament.

On days when no competitions are scheduled the green is available for casual roll-ups between 2pm and dusk. 

NB - Teams for the 2026 season have been selected but it is still possible to register as a reserve for the various leagues by emailing the Club Secretary at admin@priorygardenbowlsclub.co.uk .

 

League Competitions

Australian Pairs

This is a weekly pairs competition played with four woods. Teams of three, with two members playing on a rotating basis, compete for the Von Roretz Trophy. Matches are played on Tuesday mornings starting at 10:00am.

The Chairman's Block League

This is a weekly competition played with three woods. Teams of four, with three members playing on a rotating Matches are played on Thursday evenings starting at 6:30pm.

AGE Concern League

This is an external triples competition played on two rinks. Club teams are split into four or five leagues of eight. Within each league the teams play each other home and away. The winners of each league are then invited to play in a semi-final and final knock-out competition. Click here or use the AGE Concern drop-down at the top of the page for fixtures and results.

All-Day Competitions

Singles

For the 2026 season there will be a Ladies' and a Gent's Singles competition. The winners will receive the Ladies' Cup and the Gents' Tankard respectively. These will be played as single league competitions with each player playing four matches of eight ends. The winner of both competitions will then play-off to decide the overall Club Singles Champion who will receive the John Bull Trophy.

Pairs

This is a four wood competition. For the 2026 season each team will play four matches of eight ends in a league format with points awarded for each match won or drawn. Pairs are picked from a hat to play in this competition with the winners sharing the Pairs Shield

Mixed-Pairs  

This is a four wood competition. For the 2026 season each team will play four matches of eight ends in a league format with points awarded for each match won or drawn. Traditionally lady members asked male members to be their partner for this competition. This has changed with ladies' and gents' names now being drawn from two separate hats to decide pairings. The winners share the Wymondham and District, Chamber of Trade and Commerce, Bowls Trophy

Triples

For the 2026 season the competition will be played with three woods with each team playing three matches of twelve ends. The competition winners will be the team with the best accumulative score achieved over the three matches.

Teams are picked from a hat to play in this competition.

 

Afternoon Competitions

3/2/1 competitions are held throughout the season. Traditionally played on Saturday afternoons, for the 2026 season some of these competitions will be moved to be played mid-week. These matches provide members with an opportunity to demonstrate their draw shot skills using two woods. Trophies played for include:

  • Gaynor Challenge Shield
  • Derek Buckle Memorial Shield
  • Bartram Shield
  • Chairman's Shield
  • Thos Cousins Cup
  • Fred Brown Memorial Shield

 

Hethersett Social Club Bowls Club Charity Tournament

Each year the Hethersett Social Club BC holds an all day tournament to raise funds for a chosen charity. This is a two wood triples competition played in mini leagues followed by a semi-final and final knock out.

 

Waveney Triples Tournament

This tournament is played in August each year at the Waveney Bowls Club, Oulton Broads.
