The Ramshackle Community Orchestra is a multi-generational 20+ piece, Bath-based string orchestra (ages ranging from 10-73!), featuring violins, violas, cellos, double bass, and guitars. We play an exciting and eclectic repertoire ranging from passionate gypsy tunes, Klezmer laments, and tango, to lilting Celtic folk and mysterious airs from the wilder reaches of Hungary and Transylvania.
Founded by the wonderful violinist, teacher and Radio Banska fiddler Nina Trott, Ramshackle remained one of her greatest passions. Nina has been hugely missed since she unexpectedly passed away at the beginning of 2017. After much searching, we are so lucky to have found a kindred spirit in Seona Pritchard who became Ramshackle's new Musical Director in 2018. Brimming with exuberance and joy, she creates and brings arrangements of fantastic tunes for us to play, including dynamic Klezmer, Scottish and French tunes, Irish Mazurkas, and a beautiful Russian waltz.
More About Us
Nina's goal was to get her multi-generational pupils, no matter their age and ability, to form an ensemble that could do public performances in their local community - boosting their confidence, their skills - and most importantly, the sheer amount of fun they got from playing an instrument!
The orchestra has performed at Bath Festival's Party in the City and at various other concerts every year since its inception, attracting huge audiences and enthusiastic acclaim. With exciting and innovative arrangements, Ramshackle provides a platform for players to explore the indigenous music of a wide range of cultures and communities, as well as raising money for a variety of community causes.
