About the Ramshackle Orchestra

Ramshackle Orchestra is a multi-generational 20+ piece, UK Bath-based community string orchestra, featuring violins, violas, cellos, double bass, and the occasional penny whistle! We play an eclectic and atmospheric repertoire including passionate Klezmer, gypsy and traditional French tunes, lilting Celtic folk, and mysterious airs from the wilder reaches of Hungary and Transylvania.

Ramshackle was created in 2013 by Radio Banska fiddler, violin teacher and arranger Nina Trott, who very sadly passed away in January 2017. In 2018 we had the good fortune to find a kindred spirit in Seana Pritchard who took up the reigns as our Musical Director. As well as bringing fun, passion and exuberance, she continues to extend our repertoire by arranging more wonderful tunes for us to play, including her own compositions.

Since its inception the orchestra has performed at Bath Festival's Party in the City and at various other events and venues every year (except the Covid 2021), attracting large audiences and enthusiastic acclaim - see details of previous concerts. With exciting and innovative arrangements, Ramshackle provides a platform for players to explore the indigenous music of a wide range of cultures and communities, as well as raising money for a variety of community causes.
