Weekly Bowling Tips
Short Mat Bowls — Tip of the Week
Focus: Delivery & Line — get the first metre right
This week, concentrate on where your bowl travels during the first metre after release. A good delivery starts smoothly; trying to steer the bowl later won't rescue a poor initial line.
Pick your aiming point before stepping onto the mat. Set your feet and shoulders towards that line, keep your head still, then swing your arm like a pendulum. Release close to the mat and let your hand continue naturally towards the aiming point. Avoid watching the jack too early—watch the bowl cross your chosen line first.
🏆 Weekly drill — “The Gate”
Place two markers about one bowl-width apart, roughly 1 metre in front of the delivery mat. Deliver 12 bowls towards a jack at normal length. Your only goal is to send each bowl cleanly through the gate.
Score 1 point for every bowl through the gate. Aim for 8/12 initially, then work towards 10/12.
Match reminder:
Line first → smooth delivery → weight second.
If your bowl repeatedly misses on the same side, adjust your starting line slightly rather than changing your whole delivery.
