Saltburn Open Pairs Competition
The annual open pairs competition at Saltburn was held on Saturday 28th April (first two rounds) with the final stages (quarter finals, semi finals and final) the following day Sunday 29th April.
The competition was well supported with 40 teams taking part an additional 8 from the previous year.
Winners of the previous year Phil Margerrison and Robin Bell from Nafferton were unable to attend to defend their title and with Duncan Robinson being in competition elsewhere John Selley team up with Bill Hutchinson to form a new partnership.
Saltburn players managed to get three teams into the quarter final stages to give the hosts a great chance to take the trophy.
The final was an enthralling game being contested by Paul Bostock and Mick Jewell from Skelton pitting their skills John Selley from Borough Park and Saltburns own Bill Hutchinson. In a hard fought and extremely close John and Bill pipped Paul and Mick by 13 points to 12
The whole weekend was a great success thanks to the ladies of Saltburn (and the odd guy) helping out with pie and peas, bacon and sausage butties and an amazing display of cakes and sandwiches that were used to keep everyone going over both Saturday and Sunday.
Once again the weather was kind to us with dry and sunny weather on both days, a cool breeze was just the ticket to keep the bowlers at the optimum operating temperature!
Thanks to everyone who took part, thanks to all the visitors and members who supplied tombola prizes as well as those who bought tickets and last but not least the generous sponsorship received from Tingdene Park Homes.
