Pendle Local Plan

Pendle Borough Council are holding a six week public consultation to consider the first draft of the Pendle Local Plan Part 2.

Local plans must be positively prepared, justified, effective and consistent with national policy. Our Plan seeks to balance our need to develop and improve the areas where we live and work, whilst ensuring that best of our natural and historic environments are adequately protected.

What is the Local Plan?

The Local Plan contains the planning policies that will be used to manage future development and growth in Pendle. Once adopted it will be used on a daily basis by planning officers to help them decide whether to approve or refuse applications for planning permission.

Why we want you to comment

Leader of Pendle Council Councillor Mohammed Iqbal MBE says: “We have listened carefully to what our residents and others have told us, to help us produce a positive forward looking strategy. The Local Plan promotes new development, where we believe it is best placed meet our future economic, social and environmental needs. It shows how much land we are proposing to set aside for housing and employment in Pendle up to 2030. This consultation gives you the opportunity to tell us if you think our strategy will work.”

How to take part in the consultation

The six-week public consultation runs from 9am on Friday 12 February to 5pm on Friday 26 March 2021. Comments submitted after the close of the consultation may not be accepted.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the consultation documents will only be available online. Throughout the six-week consultation period we will host a series of online meetings. These will be supplemented with one-to-one sessions, where you can speak with a planning officer.

Details of how to book your place at one of our online events will be published on the Council website, social media, Parish Council and other public notice boards and in the local press.

How to submit your comments

Where possible Pendle Council wishes to involve and consult with people electronically through our website. You can view, or download, all consultation documents and complete our online representation form at:

www.pendle.gov.uk/siteallocations

You can also submit your comments by letter or email. Your letter/email should make it clear:

1.       The title of the document you are commenting on.

2.       The page number and the paragraph number, policy number, or site reference.

3.       Whether you are commenting, supporting or objecting to what is said in the plan.

If you are objecting, it would be useful if you could suggest alternative wording at the end of your comment, which would help to overcome any concerns you may have.

What happens next?

We will consider all the comments we receive in response to this consultation and amend the draft plan as necessary. We will then publish a final draft of the Local Plan Part 2 (the so called Publication Report) towards the end of the year for a further six week public consultation. As soon as practicable after the close of this consultation, we will send a copy of the Plan; any representations we have received and all supporting documents to the Secretary of State for independent examination.
