Year 2018

This year out juniors have been very busy entering junior, club, County with one junior being chosen to compete in the Amy Rose Bowl at Lemington Spa at the National tournament.

Our junior coaching sessions have seen new and old faces for this seasons training with ages ranging from 3 years old to 17 years of age playing. We have focused on allowing the juniors to fulfil their talent as well learning from experiences within the club. Towards the end of the season we gave the children more freedom which allowed them to play more matches and feel comfortable playing with their mates.

In the junior league this year we were able to enter 3 teams due to the growth in our junior section. The Maroon team placed second overall after loosing to an extra end and down to the last wood! We would like to say a massive well done to Papworth on winning the tournament this year! All the coaches would like to say a massive well done to all the juniors that have participated in the league and we wish you the best of luck next year.

Furthermore; we typically have our very own coach Maddy playing the ladies division one during the league season but this year we had many more juniors help the adults strive to success in their leave teams. The Maroon team in which Maddy play's in won the league, we would like to say well done to her, fellow coach Karen and the rest of the team, as well deserved win. We had Billie Gardner play in ladies division 3 with our other ladies which is great experience for her. We also had Lewis Lawman, Thomas Whitikar, Samuel Bates and Alfie Gardner help playing the men's A, B and C men's team. This is an excellent achievement well done to all our young members.

Friday morning competitions went well and the weather was typically brilliant for the juniors. We had children coming from Huntingdon this season which was great seeing them to get involved. Matches we fun but competitive with a different junior achieving a medal each week. All the juniors have conducted themselves well and done the club proud.

With finals day approaching we have more juniors making it into the finals along side the adults. Maddy made it to three finals and was successful in winning gold in all of them, this was the Under 18s Singles winning against Thomas by one shot, Generation Pairs with her mum and fellow coach Karen winning against the Gardiners and Ladies 4 wood singles, beating her mum in a very good match to watch. Lewis Lawman done extremely well in winning the non-winners singles this year and Nathan Worby winning the carpet bowls singles. Well done to all for achieveing the finals.

The junior section would like to give Maddy Leader  a special mention as she  went on to represent Huntingdonshire in the Amy Rose being he only lady to play from Sawtry. Maddy has been competing in this competition for many years now. Unfortunately we lost in the first round but was an excellent match to watch. The team would like to say a massive well done to the Manager Karen for all the hard work she has put into this team. If anyone who is under 31 would like a chance to compete please speak to Karen for more information.

We would like to say well done to the Huntingdonshire Under 25's  A Team EBF team for winning at Skegness this year, depsite the issues they faced on the rink.  The B team unfortunatly did not make the final but we had many juniors play which was brilliant to see them participating in new games.

If you would like to know how to get involved with our junior section please contact: Bernie Shannon or Karen and Maddy Leader.
