On a bright evening the winner of the Club’s 2020 singles competition, Paul Bishop, faced Mark Walton of Nafferton. With the pandemic preventing the competition from taking place in 2020, some 830 entries would be taking part initially in local competitions but with the winner subsequently facing opponents from increasing distances away. The final in 2021 will take place in New Zealand where the World Champion of Champions will be crowned.

Paul’s opponent became the first English success in 2005 when Mark having won the national singles added the World title in Christchurch New Zealand.

The match - first to 21 - was excellent and for the members watching some of the play was quite superb. Mark picked up the line and pace of the green very quickly and gained success on the first 5 ends where he took an 11 shot lead. He subsequently built on this lead with Paul taking 3 ends with some splendid woods. Mark held a 20 - 4 lead after 14 ends. He scored the required one shot on the 15th end and progresses through to the next round.

All thoroughly enjoyed a display of excellent bowling, even if the colour of the woods made identification rather difficult! Paul bowled well but Mark was in superb form and it was a pleasure to witness such a display of quality consistent bowling from the former World Champion of Champions.
