4 rinks of mixed pairs, randomly paired, played 18 ends in a keenly fought competition. On two of the rinks Pam & Derek had a convincing 21-5 win over Ken & Sue whilst Phil & Julia won 22-11 against Joyce & Tony. However the other two matches were extremely tight. Jan & Peter lost by 1 shot - 15-16 against Pauline T and John H, who scored a number of end wins by some 3s and a 4. Jan & Peter had the consolation of winning 11 of the 18 ends. On the fourth rink, Wendy & Tristan opened up a 10-3 lead after 11 ends. However the experience of Tom & Heather prevailed and in the next 7 ends they scored 14 points to 1.

The semi-finals took place in the afternoon, initially in drizzle followed by bright sunshine. Pam & Derek had pulled back from 13-4 down after 7 ends to be tying at 13 apiece after 11 against Julia & Phil. The other rink saw Pauline & John H tying 7-7 with Heather & Tom after 11 ends. With 2 ends to play 1 point separated both teams on each rink. Following 3 on end 17 Tom & Heather needed a 4 to take the match to a play-off. In the event they scored 2 meaning that John H & Pauline T reached the final. On the other rink, Julia H & Phil prevailed by 1 shot - 20-19.

All agreed these matches were excellent and a number of the participants are relatively new to bowling. The final which starts at 2:00pm on Sunday sees the Hortons competing against each other!
