Could the team continue their successful run which had led to them being League Champions with two fixtures remaining? They faced an awkward encounter at home to Snainton. There were three distinct competitions with each rink facing a number of challenges. Edwin’s rink were stuck on 2 shots from end 1 until end 11. The opponents had moved to a 3-20 lead. On Cyril’s rink, they moved into a strong position leading by 14-8 after 11 ends. On John S’s rink they were just ahead 12-10 after 11. So we entered the latter ends with a 2-1 lead in rinks and we were behind on aggregate 29-38. Things began to change, in some cases quite dramatically. Edwin’s rink began to whittle away at the lead and benefited from bringing the mat up. They clawed back the shots scoring 12 against 1 in the remaining seven ends finishing 15-21. Cyril’s rink continued to add to the aggregate scoring a further 9 shots to 4 finishing 23-12. On John S’s rink things changed dramatically; from 12-10 up the home rink surged to a lead of 21-10 in a matter of 3 ends. Unfortunately the opposition pulled back 10 shots in three ends to go into the final end 21-20. A two on the last end gave Snainton a 22-21 victory.

The overall score gave Snainton two winning rinks and South Cliff 1, South Cliff won the aggregate 59-55 so the points were shared 4-4. This was a very enjoyable match with a number of twists and turns. Wednesday see the final fixture against Scalby & Newby at home.
