It was a very hot and humid afternoon but our ladies produced a winning formula in spite of the heat on both rinks.

It had been agreed with the Atherley captain before the match commenced that 15 ends instead of the usual 18 would constitute a game, and that was more than enough.  Jan Body, Lin Mills & Jan Bunker set off well and indeed were 10-2 up at 7 ends.  However then they  let their  opponents back into the game with a 2 and a 5 conceded on consecutive ends (10-9).  It was enough to kick start the match though and with the loss of only one further single, the team ran out 19-10 winners.

On the next rink, Choi-Lin Sanders, Jeni Winney and Barbara Sparling lost one more end than they won but it was the 8 achieved on the 5th end that really made the difference, taking them from 5-2 up to 13-2 up.  So whose wood didn't count?   Skip Sparling's -  her final wood delivered on that end just dropping into the ditch.  A further 3 achieved on the following end nudged them even further in front and then they pottered along with the loss of mainly singles until the penultimate end when the home side picked up a 3.  A single conceded on the final end brought the score to 20-10 in favour of our ladies with an overall win of 39 shots to 20 and by 4 points to 0.

From the S &DWBA website, it looks as if a lot of teams struggled in the heat so well done our ladies for persevering.
