S&B WBA Rinks B League   Ladies Home to County BC., 10th May 2018

It was hardly the start that the Ladies league team, now back in the Rinks, were hoping for with defeats on both rinks, at home, to County Bowling Club. To make matters worse Choi-Lin Sanders, Pam Crompton, Jeni Winney and Barbara Sparling had been 8-1 up at 6 ends, and 12-5 up at 11 ends, only to get stuck on 14 shots for the second half of the game, as the opposition found the green to their liking, resulting in them picking up 9 shots in 5 ends and finishing the game with a score of 14-21.

On the adjacent rink, Jan Body, Marguerite Oliver, Lin Mills and Jan Bunaker had a nip and tuck match.  Despite winning more ends than their opponents, the Old Green team were narrowly defeated, finishing on 14-16.

Whilst the Old Green recorded a loss of 28 shots (0 points) to 36 (4 points), there were plenty of positives to take away from the game, especially considering this was the first game of the season. We are sure that the team will returning to their winning ways in no time at all!

SOBG Ladies Away to Mayfield Park  17th May, 2018

The second match of the campaign saw the Ladies away to Mayfield Park which was a much more positive and fulfilling affair. Expecting the Mayfield green to be heavy as usual, the SOBG team found that the green was actually a joy to play on and a very competitive match developed on both rinks. Barbara Sparling’s rink (Choi-lin Sanders, Pam Crompton, & Jeni Winney) let a good lead dissolve away (13-2 up at 7 ends) as the home side came back at them. On end 19, the opposition skip sprang the jack sideways out of the SOBG-held head but fortunately it went to two SOBG wing woods and Barbara was able to draw with the last wood of the end picking up a three. Unfortunately the team weren’t able to hold onto their lead, dropping three shots over the final two ends to draw the game at 21-21. Although the rink didn’t win, the draw earnt the team half a point.

Jan Bunker’s rink started strongly and were 15-5 up at 10 ends, but the Mayfield ladies battled hard and at one point were only four shots behind (15-11 at 12 ends). However from there our ladies pressed on again and eventually ran out winners 25-17, scoring 3 on the final end which helped the Old Green team win the overall. The final score was Old Green 46 (3½ points) – Mayfield 38 (½ point).
