SOBG vs Plessey IOW

Sunday 22.05.2016

Under cloudy skies yesterday morning, 26 bowlers and 7 guests boarded the 11.45am Red Jet for the 35 minute Solent crossing to the Isle of Wight for the first leg of our annual friendly competition with Plessey I.O.W. Bowls Club.

This competition consisting of one home and one away game each year, has been in existence for approximately 14 years. The accumulative scores of each team from both games are added together in late September and the winning team then hold the coveted trophy for one year.

The current holders from the 2015 season are Plessey B C.

Yesterday after a hard fought game over 7 rinks, amidst lots of laughter, alcohol and food, SOBG came away with a 25 shot lead to take over to the next game in September after managing a win of 137 shots to 112 shots.

If I remember correctly, the situation of SOBG holding an early lead in 2015 was the same, however Plessey managed a resounding win on their return leg to Southampton and they went away with the trophy.

During the trip SOBG members had the opportunity to see up close, the very latest cruise ship “Harmony of the Seas” which was out in the Solent, plus the cruise liner “Queen Victoria” which was in dock.
