CRIBBAGE AND DOMINOS

Another fun social afternoon was enjoyed by many of the Southport members with a sesion of cribbage and dominos.  A few people proved to be quick learners when thrown in the deep end with cribbage but everyone enjoyed themselves.

Thanks to Jane for keeping us refreshed with drinks and biscuits.

Next up is BINGO sometime in April - details to follow

CLUB COMPETITION CHANGES

As previously stated a club objective this year is to get more members playing more bowls.  To try and achieve this the committee have made a few changes to the club competitions with the aim of attracting lesser experienced bowlers into entering:

A new Junior (Under 30) Singles competition

The Tuesday evening pairs league will change to a 'turn up on the evening' event so you can play as often as you wish.  Players on the evening will be seeded and then randomly drawn to try and create pairs of even experience.  Scores will be accumulated throughout the season

3 Wood Pairs competition is to be extended to include Juniors so each pairing must be Gentleman & Lady / Junior

The handicap system is being 'widened'

The Birkdale SIngles Championship is to become a handicap competition

More details will be available as the season starts but please consider entering more competitions this year as many of these are now designed to appeal to lesser experienced bowlers

LADIES COUNTY FRIENDLY vs. YORKSHIRE

Lancashire ladies are set to play a friendly against Yorkshire ladies.

Date: 30th April, proposed time of start is 12.30 but this is yet to be confirmed, it will possibly be around this time, then the game should finish before the heavy traffic on the M62.

Cost is £4 for tea and biscuits upon arrival and again after the game.

Event is York RI, Ashton Lane, York YO24 4HX.

It is hoped we can get 24 ladies to fill a green and if we have more then some can play half a game.

Names to be given to Jane or Clare Fletcher and then we can look at putting people into playing positions/teams.

WELCOME TO OUR WEBSITE

We are a friendly club and encourage new bowlers to come and give the game a try. Bowls is a sociable game, a healthy outdoor sport and above all it’s for ALL ages

So, if you are young or not so young, experienced or a beginner, and you would like to give it a try, do come down to our Club just off the Promenade in Kings Gardens, and you will be made very welcome.

Southport Bowling Club offers:-

  1. Free coaching by qualified instructors
  2. The loan of equipment, avoiding the need to incur any expense until you are sure the game is for you

Southport Bowling Club is the only Flat Green Bowling Club in the Southport and Liverpool area. Established in 1937 our two bowling greens are located at the south end of the Marine Lake in Kings Gardens just off the Promenade. There is a large clubroom with adjacent changing and locker facilities.

We have a reputation for being a very friendly sociable club and new members are made very welcome. For the new bowler we offer free taster sessions and free coaching plus the loan of suitably sized bowls. The only proviso, you must wear footwear with smooth soles and no heels.

Our playing season begins in April and runs through the summer months to the middle of September. Club roll ups are held on Monday and Wednesday afternoons. These games are a relaxed and easy way to learn, improve and play bowls.

Social Bowling may also take place at weekends and in the week when the greens are available and not in use for organised competitions.

For those players wishing to play in a more competitive arena the club enters teams, and individual players enter both National and County competitions. Various Club Leagues run on weekdays for members to enjoy a competitive game in addition to Club Competitions.  A number of social events take place throughout the year, Bowl and Dine, Quiz nights, and Bingo. Special themed events take place throughout the summer and also the winter months

We open our second Green to members of the public, with a Green Fee payable.
