Speedwatch

With a Parish Councillor recording vehicles driving 20mph over the speed limit at a recent Speedwatch session, we know only too well that speeding in Speldhurst Parish remains a critical issue.

Speedwatch works in ways you might not have considered; firstly, as a deterrent, secondly, because repeat offenders are contacted by the police. And finally, Speedwatch data can be used to persuade local authorities of the need for traffic calming. We currently have Speedwatch sites in Langton Green and Speldhurst and are working with Kent Police to establish an additional site in Speldhurst, and a new site in Old Groombridge. This also depends on volunteer help, and while we already have excellent volunteer teams undertaking Speedwatch sessions in Speldhurst and Langton Green, we will need more so please consider volunteering.

You might also be interested to know that our parish PCSO carries out his own speed monitoring sessions, most recently in Ashurst and on the A264 at the top of Dornden Drive. He also has the authority to pull over excessively speeding drivers and speak with them about the dangers of speeding.

Highways Meetings

A number of road safety ‘hotspots’ will be discussed at our next Highways meeting, which will be held via Zoom on Monday 28th June. This meeting is open to the public, with a dedicated open session where you can speak about concerns or issues. It is important for us to have an open dialogue with residents so we can do our best to help improve local roads. We undertake our own improvements where allowed, and lobby Kent Highways, acting as a voice for the parish. Do get in touch to find out more.
