An update on Scottish Gas Network's current road closures on the Langton/Speldhurst Road and adjoining lanes. This is a reminder that SGN have assured us pedestrian access will be available throughout. We have also heard that the roads affected will remain closed overnight. Please read the information below and factor into your travel plans.

I am writing to advise you of our upcoming project to upgrade the gas network in Speldhurst Road, Penshurst. We’ll be replacing our old metal gas mains and services with new plastic pipe. This essential work will ensure your community continues to receive a safe and reliable gas supply for many years to come. In consultation with Kent County Council, our contractor WCB Utilities, will be carrying out this project on our behalf and will start work on Monday 19 July for approximately six weeks. During this time, our engineers will be working in the following roads.

Monday 19 July for approximately five weeks - we will be working in Burnt House Lane, to ensure the safety of those around our site we will need to close Burnt House Lane from 19 July for approximately two weeks, We will then keep the road closed at the junction with Langton Road for a further three weeks, but open the remainder of the road.

Friday 26 July for approximately three weeks - we will be working in Langton Road, to access our network safely, we will need to close the road from where Langton Road meets Speldhurst Road to the junction with Ewehurst Lane.

Friday 26 July for approximately six weeks - our engineers will be working in Speldhurst Road, we will need close the road from the junction with Langton Road and Winstone Scott Avenue to maintain safety.

Signed diversions will be in place and access will remain for residents. Please refer to your bus website for information on any revised routes.

Monday 9 August for approximately three weeks - our engineers will be in Legg Lane at the junction with Speldhurst Road.

We’re working closely with the UK Government and public health bodies to make sure we work in line with expert advice during the pandemic. We have extra safety precautions in place to protect our colleagues and our communities from catching or spreading the virus as we carry out our safety-critical project. There’s more information about our coronavirus response on our website: sgn.co.uk/coronavirus.

We understand that people can get frustrated by roadworks. However, the new plastic pipe has a minimum lifespan of 80 years. This means that when the work is complete, residents will continue to enjoy the benefits of a safe and reliable gas supply for years to come.
