St George the Martyr
If you have just moved into the area, a warm welcome! Do get in touch if we can be of any help. If you are looking for a church to attend, why not come along to our main service at 9.30 on a Sunday morning.
St George’s is a friendly welcoming community, committed to being outward looking, open and inclusive. We are the Anglican Church of Wash Common and part of the Newbury Team of churches. Alongside the worship provision, St George’s thrives as a lively hub for a wide range of community activities. At the heart of our vision there is the desire for St George’s to be an active and generous part of Wash Common life. The St George’s Centre, which runs on a non profit making basis, already expresses this well and we’re now well on our way to redeveloping the church building itself so that alongside being a place of worship, it also becomes a superb space for community groups to use and value.
St George’s is a ‘broad church’ in the open Catholic tradition of the Church of England. I would though want to stress the word ‘broad’ as there is a genuine breadth of churchmanship across the St George’s congregation, and long may that continue! Hopefully the strap line on our roadside notice board also gives you a sense of our desire to celebrate our breadth and welcome to all,
The Church is a place of peace, where all can ask questions and search for answers.
The Eucharist is at the centre of much of our worship with a policy of open communion that includes children. We also have a strong tradition of nurturing vocations and the support of women’s ministry. We have a thriving choir of nearly 30 (including children), and a music group that supports our worship on the 1st Sunday of the month and on other special occasions.
The short version is this…come along, all are welcome!
