Club Competition Rules

ST IPPOLYTS BOWLS CLUB

 

COMPETITION RULES (Revised 2020)

                                   

1          Entrance fees shall be £2.50 per competition per competitor.

 

2          All entrants who have nominated to compete in a Club singles competition will be drawn by ballot to decide who their opponents will be. In pairs and triples entrants shall be seeded, the first two/three competitors drawn shall be partnered together, the second two/three competitors drawn shall also be partnered together and oppose the first drawn team, the rest of the draw being completed similarly.

 

3          In all competitions (but see ‘pairs’ and ‘triples’ below), the first drawn shall be the ‘Home’ player/team and shall offer their opponents three dates prior to the closing date for each round and book a rink for that agreed date. Failure to offer dates, or failure to accept one of the three dates offered shall automatically disqualify the defaulter/s, and give their opponent/s a ‘Bye’ to the next round of that competition.

 

4          In all singles competitions the Home player is responsible for appointing a Marker who shall be acceptable to both players.

 

5          On completion of each game a fully completed scorecard, including the names of all competitors, shall be signed by the loser and passed to the Competitions Organiser.

 

OPEN SINGLES CUP

 

Singles competition open to all members and competed for annually. The result of each match shall be decided by the first player to attain 21 shots and the end being completed.

LADIES SINGLES CUP

 

 Rules as for Open Singles Cup apply.

 

FRANKLIN CUP

 

Singles competition restricted to members who have never won the Open Singles Cup, Men’s Singles Cup, Ladies Singles Cup or Franklin Cup. Rules as for the Open Singles Cup apply.

 

BERT & BETTY SAICH PAIRS CUP

 

This competition is open to all members and shall be competed for annually.

 

The result of each match shall be decided by the pair who has the highest score after the completion of 18 ends. In the event of a tie a deciding end will be played. The order that each player plays shall be agreed before the commencement of each match, this order of play to be maintained throughout the game.

 

The quarter and semi-final rounds shall be played on a day determined by the Fixtures Secretary and entered onto the Fixture Programme.

 

TRIPLES

 

The rules are as for the Pairs Cup,  the result too shall be determined after 18 ends.

VICARS CUP

 

This is competed for annually on the basis of a spoon drive with the competitor having the highest aggregate score being declared the winner.

 

Open to all members and the residents of St Ippolyts Parish and to be played on a day determined by the Fixtures Secretary and entered onto the Fixture Programme.

 

THE RON THOMPSON TROPHY -YARDSTICK

 

Singles competition open to all members:-

 

The match will be played with fixed Jack positions marked by golf tees. These will be set at full length and minimum length in opposite directions.

 

Four woods will be used by each player with the objective of drawing all woods within a one yard circle of the Jack. If the Jack is moved from its mark it shall be immediately replaced by the Marker. If it cannot be replaced on its spot the Marker will place it as near as possible to its original position.

 

When all eight woods have been bowled the Marker will measure with the Yardstick touching the Jack in a circle around it. A wood counts when the Yardstick can touch both that wood and the Jack (both players can score at the conclusion of an end).

 

The winner shall be the first player to 25 shots. In the event of a tie extra ends shall be played on a ‘sudden death’ basis.

 

 

The MARION ALDRIDGE CHALLENGE TROPHY

 

Handicap singles competition open to all members

 

Rules for open singles except that each player shall put their handicap on the score card before the start of each game and then play 15 ends.

 

The handicap will be decided by a select committee at the beginning of each season.

 

The committee will consist of:

The Competition Secretary

Club Captain

Vice Captain

One Other Committee Member

 

The DON PATEMAN TWO WOODS PAIRS COMPETITION

 

The competition is open to all members and shall be played for annually.

Names are to be drawn from a hat.

One point is awarded for each end won and the winner is the person to first reach 11.

Order of play is to be determined at beginning and to remain unchanged.
