Called to serve?

The 1st reading and Gospel for the Second Sunday of the year are about being called to serve.  But most of us, unlike Samuel, aren’t going to hear God’s voice or be called by Jesus in person.  Even if this does happen, like Samuel, it isn’t always easy to understand. And perhaps this is part of the problem, we think ‘I’d like to do something’ but don’t know how to start or who to talk to or we think that we can’t do things.

The good news is, of course, that we can and the opportunity to start something new is right here in our parish.  We need more servers in and this problem can only be helped by have more people take this chance to take part. But this problem can be solved with just a few more volunteers.  As well as the need for servers at Mass we also need an adult chaperone to attend practice with us.  In return giving your time you will be rewarded with a greater knowledge and understanding of the Mass; and the chance to join an existing dedicated and vibrant group of servers.

Serving is open to all who have made their first Holy Communion, though all adults who wish to serve have to undergo an enhanced DBS.  You don’t need to have any special knowledge or skills as full training will be provided. Training will be conducted in an appropriate manner and fully supportive of your new role and is held regularly in the church at 6:00pm on Fridays during school term time.

If you’d like to know more Jeremy will be available after Mass this weekend to chat to.  Alternatively you can get in touch by letter care of the parish office, by email: or on the phone on (01264) 332773.

Or just come along to practice one Friday evening for the chance to try with no commitment.  So if you have been or waiting for a call to service, wondering what to do but don’t know how to start or would just like to know a bit more about what we do at Mass then this is you opportunity to do so.
