History
St Mary's Bay Village Hall
St Mary’s Bay Village Hall, based in the centre of the village, is built on part of the site of the original WWI Royal Flying Corps, (RFC) depot. After the war it became the Duke of York’s (later King George II) holiday camp and was also used by the Boy’s Brigade. The site was sold in the 1920s to Allnatt Ltd, who developed it as a School Journey Centre, taking up to 1000 children per week during each summer. The former guard house, at the beginning of Jefferstone Lane became the tuck shop, and the military buildings became dormitories. At the commencement of WWII the site was requisitioned for military purposes. The School Journey Centre resumed operations in St Mary's Bay after the war ended, but moved to Bournemouth in the 1970s, and the site was then sold for development.
The Village Hall is on the site of the old RFC officers mess, and the present building opened in 1985.
