School Street Scheme

Good Morning

I know your all looking forward to six weeks of no school but I wanted to make you aware of this.

I was at a community engagement event in Chatham last week when a member of the public flagged this “School Street Scheme.” That is currently under consultation at Medway council.

The council are proposing to mount static cameras on the end of each school road to stop vehicles entering the road at specified times. (Obvious exemptions for residents)

Having worked from Medway’s community safety unit for several years I am aware of the multitude of schools that all have issues between 3pm – 4pm and we have helped the schools with the worst problems to combat the dangerous driving and parking outside their schools.

As much as we can help, we can never commit to managing the situation long term and invariably without proper management the drop off and pick up bedlam returns to a state of chaos.

I am messaging out today to make you aware of this proposed scheme more for local awareness if you live in the area of one of the schools that they are planning to trial it.

The proposed schools are.

The 11 schools taking part in the scheme are:

· St Mary's Catholic Primary School, Greenfield Road, Gillingham

· The Pilgrim School, Warwick Crescent, Borstal

· St Peter's Infant School, Holcombe Road, Rochester

· St Nicholas Church of England Infant School, Montford Road, Rochester

· Miers Court Primary School, Silverspot Close, Rainham

· Phoenix Primary School, Glencoe Road, Chatham

· Burnt Oak Primary School, Cornwall Road, Gillingham

· Hempstead Junior School, Birch Grove, Hempstead

· St William of Perth Catholic Primary School, Canon Close, Rochester

· St Thomas More Catholic Primary School, Bleakwood Road, Walderslade

· Greenvale Primary School, Symons Avenue, Chatham.
