Emergency Food Hub
Staff across Shropshire Council have been ensuring that residents who are shielding, isolated or vulnerable are able to access the food and supplies they need. The hub is also supporting the many residents who can’t afford food due to the impact of coronavirus.
Operating from Shropshire Food Enterprise Centre, the Emergency Food Hub is delivering food parcels to residents throughout the county, and Shropshire Council have been working with food banks and newly-formed community groups to ensure parcels continue to be delivered to those in need.
Community Reassurance Team
A Community Reassurance Team (CRT) has been established to help local community groups, as well as town and parish councils, to identify the resources available to them from Shropshire Council, and ensure that people are connected to community groups in their area.
Currently, the team is working alongside communities to co-ordinate support for residents and businesses in five key areas. These are Central Shropshire (Shrewsbury, Pontesbury, Atcham, Cressage and surrounds), North West Shropshire (Oswestry, Ellesmere, Whitchurch, Wem and surrounds), North East Shropshire (Market Drayton, Shifnal, Albrighton and surrounds), South West Shropshire (Ludlow, Bishop’s Castle, Clun, Craven Arms, Church Stretton and surrounds) and South East Shropshire (Bridgnorth, Cleobury Mortimer, Broseley, Much Wenlock and surrounds).
The CRT team can help with updating a shared resource of community activity, linking Town and Parish Councils and voluntary organisations to ensure advice and guidance is communicated, helping to ensure volunteers have suitable DBS checks where appropriate, working with vulnerable groups, support for front line social workers and health staff, and connecting Council, VCSA and community services to ensure that people have everything they need to support wellbeing.
