Waterfall Cottage
The first copyhold record of the cottage is in 1751, when it is described as a cottage with a garden with its appurtenances, late in the tenure of Bartholomew Newman. The copyhold was granted to Robert Scriven, for his life and the lives of his son William, aged 14, and his daughter Sarah, 7.
The ownership passed in 1784, to George Curtis, his wife Sarah and their son James. Sarah is 40 years old, and is probably Sarah Scriven, who already lived there. From this time, it is described as a Smith’s shop, with the garden thereto belonging (11 perches)
David Grieve, who has lived there since 2002, has summarised the details of its history and ownership in the attached document.
