Thames Valley Farmers Market Co-operative

How to Join

We welcome applications from local producers who would like to trade at Thames Valley farmers’ markets.

Farmers’ markets are all about selling local produce. In our membership rules we define local as being within 30-50 miles of each market.

Stallholders may only sell produce that they have grown, reared, caught, brewed, pickled, baked, smoked or processed themselves.  They are required to have Public and Product liability insurance, as well as local authority environmental health checks completed (where applicable).

For secondary produce (baked, pickled, smoked, brewed or processed goods) your product must contain at least 25% local ingredients. Please note that we have had an unprecedented number of applications from secondary producers in the last few months, particularly from bakers, therefore we may not be able to progress your application until we can guarantee space for you at our markets.

Stalls must be staffed by the producer, a family member or someone who is directly involved in producing the goods on sale.

All traders at our markets are members of the co-operative. To make sure that we can guarantee the provenance and quality of all goods sold at Thames Valley farmers’ markets all potential members are accredited before they can trade at our markets.

If you are interested in joining our co-operative here are the steps involved -

  1. Complete and return our application form which you can download below.
  2. Your enquiry will be reviewed by our board of Directors.  If you meet our membership criteria we will ask our Accreditation Officer to visit you to check your production processes and source of materials. Public and Product Liability insurance documents and Food Hygiene certificates will be checked. We require product insurance cover of no less than £5,000,000 and public liability cover of no less than £5,000,000. For this visit we charge £100.  Any producers more than 30 miles from their nearest TVFM market will be required to pay £100 plus transport costs for the accreditation officer visit.
  3. Your application and accreditation report are submitted to our board of Directors for approval. There is an annual membership fee of £60 and a one off £1 charge for your co-operative share. Upon joining all members become voting shareholders of the co-operative.
  4. You will be notified once your application is approved and can start trading at markets where there is space.  Stallholders are charged £30.00 stall fee at every market they attend. If you are an alcohol producer, there is an additional licence fee of £7 per market.
