Wiltshire Wildlife Trust project
The RWB Shed
12th March 2020:
Our chairman, Albi Richardson, was recently contacted by Neil Pullen from Wiltshire Wildlife Trust asking whether The RWB Shed would be interested in building some bird & bat boxes for a project that they were involved in.
The project is for a large well-known company, who ask their staff to get involved with nature conservation projects. The company funds the projects and the staff donate their time.
In this instance they wanted 40 bird boxes & 10 'Kent' style bat boxes. The 40 bird boxes were to be made up of 10 each with 25mm, 28mm and 32mm openings, and 10 open fronted boxes.
In each case the boxes were to be provided in kit form and untreated softwood so that the staff involved would assemble the boxes on site. Assembly diagrams were provided.
Phil Howell sourced the timber & materials and with Albi and his wife, set about preparing 50 kit boxes.
Great teamwork proved very beneficial, with one person feeding the timber, one cutting and one stacking the individual components. Once all the components had been prepared, the various apertures were drilled and each front panel of the 50 boxes had the sheds mark applied.
Each of the boxes were set out with all of their component parts and then secured together as a pack with masking tape, thus making it fairly easy to distribute for assembly.
The finished packs can be seen here, ready for handover, with (left to right) Phil, Albi & Neil Pullen.
