Tichborne Parish Council Elections 2026
Tichborne is a safe, successful, prosperous, and friendly community, and if you are reading this, you probably live here.
If you are interested in maintaining and improving Tichborne as a village in which to live and work you could contribute to this by becoming a Parish Councillor.
The next Parish Council election is to be held on Thursday 7th May 2026.
Tichborne Parish Council is an apolitical and non-denominational organisation. The Council normally conducts one meeting every two months.
These normally take place on a Tuesday evening at the Alresford Golf Club. From time to time there is a requirement for additional meetings such as the Annual Parish Assembly.
The Parish Council consists of seven councillors.
Its job is to make Tichborne a more enjoyable place in which to live. The Council interfaces with other service providers such as Winchester City Council, Hampshire County Council, Hampshire Constabulary and others to make sure Tichborne receives the services to which it is entitled.
As all council members live in the community, they, as a collective body, are in the best position to represent the villagers’ interests.
It is also important to improve the democratic process and give all eligible residents the opportunity to put their names forward to stand for the Parish Council. If more than eight names are put forward, this would necessitate an election.
You may wonder what it takes to become a councillor. People become councillors for many different reasons including that they are passionate about local issues or they just want to be involved in improving the lives of people around them.
Groups made up of diverse individuals tend to make better informed decisions, and this is certainly true of a parish council. Almost anyone who is registered to vote, lives, works, or owns property in Tichborne can become a councillor.
So please consider standing as a councillor for Tichborne Parish Council for the next four year term.
What is the role of a Parish Councillor?
They are volunteers and do not get paid.
They should attend meetings when summoned to do so. They should prepare for meetings by studying the agenda and accompanying papers to ensure they are properly informed about issues to be discussed.
They take part in the discussions so as to form sound judgments on what is best for the community. At all times they must abide by majority decisions.
The Parish Council must ensure the Council is properly managed and Councillors must represent the whole electorate, not just those that voted for them.
All Councillors must abide by the Model Code of Conduct relating to personal and prejudicial interests.
