Councillor

I’m a Morpethian and have been a resident of West Chevington on and off since 1994. Back then the farmstead was surrounded by opencast mining and all that it brings. The massive holes and ‘Big Geordie’ have gone and we now have huge wind turbines dominating the landscape. It’s quite a tale from coal to wind. 

I like stories and tell them in my work and play in communications and writing, sometimes in songs and poems, and now and then in dialect. 

I’ve joined the parish cooncil, (sorry, ‘the council’) to try and make life better for residents, workers and visitors. After the opencast, the road was rerouted splitting West Chevington in half - it’s way too fast, the broadband is slow, and some of our heritage and footpaths seem to be lost in time.  Our lack of a community centre is also a challenge. A lot has been taken out of the ground here so it’s time to put something back in, and I’m excited about our new green parish scheme and look forward to seeing it blossom : )
