Trojans Hockey Club
Liam Keeling Shield
The Liam Keeling Shield is a men’s pre-season tournament that is held in early September of every year.
The teams are made up of 1st XI’s from the regional leagues who all use the day as the perfect pre-season preparation where players can get match fit playing in competitive 40 minute games and coaches can try new things to learn more about the squad.
The tournament has gone from strength to strength in the past few years with places filling up fast and the tournament organisers having to turn teams away.
We have had interested from Oxfordshire & Kent so book your place in the tournament as soon as possible!
The day consists of 4 teams each playing each other once with the winner of the Liam Keeling shield being named at the end of the day.
Each game is 40 minutes long (20 minutes each way) and we provide umpires from the Hampshire hockey association so all games are played in a competitive but fair manner.
The tournament organisers also provide hot food at the end of the day for each team.
One of the highlights in the past few years has been the sound system that plays music in the warm up and for every goal scored and card issued.
Not only is the Liam Keeling shield an enjoyable day for all involved but also a serious hockey tournament where teams can prepare for the season ahead.
There is an entrance fee to help cover costs although we do try to keep it as low as possible!
Previous teams that have competed include: -
- Trojans 1s
- Trojans 2s
- Old Cranleighans
- Wimbourne Wayfarers
- City of Portsmouth
- London Academicals
With Trojans winning in 2011 & 2012.
