Keycol Hill Closures 6 - 10 August

MESSAGE FROM UK POWER NETWORKS:

I am writing on behalf of UK Power Networks, the company which manages the electricity network which delivers power to your area. As part of our work, we regularly extend our network to cater for new buildings being connected to it.

As a result, our engineers are due to install a new electricity cable across the A2 at Keycol (near Sittingbourne) from the 6 to 10 August to provide a new connection to the electricity network. We will need to close a small section of the A2 Keycol Hill in between the junctions of Rook Lane and Ladyfields Close throughout this five-day project. I have provided a map indicating where the road will be closed. Emergency and residential access to properties within the closure will be maintained. Local access will be via the approved diversion routes.

Diversion route during the road closure

We have worked in conjunction with Kent County Council, Medway Council and National Highways to agree a diversion route best able to safely accommodate the volume of traffic. This includes use of the M2 and A249, or a longer non-motorway alternative. These can be viewed in the attached document.

Working collaboratively with Southern Water

We have been working closely with Kent County Council to plan the works and are collaborating with another utility to minimise the impact of roadworks. We will be working with Southern Water to minimise the disruption by ensuring both companies complete their works within the same permit period, rather than excavate the road separately on different dates.

The team will dig a trench to install and connect electricity cables, then the water company will work in the same excavation. Once the utility infrastructure is connected, we’ll reinstate the ground, return the road surface to normal and on August 11 we will collect any signs/barriers that have been turned in to reopen the road.
