Turbary Charity Introduces NoFence Technology for Dexter Steers on Tadley Common

The Turbary Charity is pleased to announce the introduction of NoFence virtual fencing technology to manage the six Dexter steers grazing on Tadley Common. This innovative approach marks a significant step forward in sustainable land management and animal welfare across the common.

The NoFence system uses GPS-enabled collars to create virtual boundaries, allowing the charity to guide cattle grazing patterns without the need for traditional fencing. When an animal approaches a virtual boundary, the collar emits an audible cue to encourage it to turn back, ensuring safe and controlled movement across the landscape.

The adoption of NoFence technology offers several key benefits:

  • Improved Conservation Grazing: Dexter cattle play an important role in maintaining the biodiversity of Tadley Common. Virtual fencing allows for more precise, responsive management of grazing areas, supporting the health of the habitat.
  • Enhanced Animal Welfare: NoFence collars are designed to be safe, humane, and minimally intrusive, giving the steers the freedom to roam naturally within controlled zones.
  • Reduced Environmental Impact: By eliminating the need for physical fencing, the charity can reduce disturbance to wildlife and preserve the natural character of the common.

Susan Mullan, Chairman of the Turbary Charity said:
“We are committed to managing Tadley Common in a way that protects and enhances its ecological value. The introduction of NoFence technology allows us to manage grazing more flexibly, safely, and sustainably. We’re excited to see the positive impact this will have on the land and the cattle in our care.”
