How we make Grants

Making grants to the work in Nepal

UMN Support Trust makes grants to the work in Nepal in two ways:

1. Designated funds:

When donations are made to a designated fund as listed on our UMN Support Trust funds page these donations are passed directly (granted) to either UMN or UMN MDT on a regular basis.  Donations are grouped together into batches to reduce bank charges and exchange rate fees.  A detailed breakdown of each transfer to Kathmandu is sent to the Funding Management Team to ensure donations reach their intended target projects.

2. Unrestricted / UMN General funds:

UMN Support Trust receives funding proposals from the UMN / UMN MDT funding team based in Kathmandu.  We then work in close cooperation with Bibhu Singh and her team to target our funding to those projects that most need our help.

The trustees meet annually to scrutinise these proposals and approve the appropriate grants.  Reports from the projects supported in the previous year are received and reviewed.  Several of the trustees have the privilege of being able to visit UMN / UMN MDT projects on a regular basis in order to ensure that UMN Support Trust grants are being used appropriately.
