This year is the 75th anniversary of VE Day and the early May Bank Holiday was moved to Friday 8th May to mark it. Due to Covid 19 many communities, including Warnford, are unable to hold events commemorating VE Day. We were planning to have a Warnford tea party in the Playground that day. We hope that it will be possible to hold this later in the year, but in the current circumstances, we cannot say when that might be. There will be some national ‘events’ online and televised, and a Two Minute Silence at 11 am on 8th May.

We asked a number of those in the village for their memories of VE day and World War 2, we are collecting these together and hope to have them available by the time of the delayed tea party, if not before. If you have VE Day etc memories you would like to share but have not been asked, we apologise for missing you off the list. Please do get in touch with Lucy on warnfordclerk@gmail.com and send them to her. They do not have to be ‘Warnford’ memories as we appreciate that not many of you were living in Warnford 75 years ago.

Kind regards and keep safe,

Mark
