The final of the indoor open singles at Wellington Bowling Club was played yesterday (Saturday) morning between Martin Speakman and Phil Ellis.

It turned out to be an excellent match, worthy of a final, and started fairly evenly with the score at 9-9 after ten ends.

Martin then began inching ahead and led 14-9 after 14 ends but Phil then started a comeback and pulled up to within three shots.

The 19th end proved to be very good for Phil as he took four shots to lead 18-16 only for Martin to then take two to tie the match at 18-all going into the final end.

Again, this was closely contested but Martin took one shot to win 19-18.

Congratulations to both players and to Eddie Dilley for a good job as marker.
