26th March, 2021 by Matt Wordingham

Lawn bowls as an outdoor sport may resume from Monday 29th March (Step 1), as part of the government’s roadmap to ease lockdown restrictions in England.

The return of sport and physical activity is vital to the physical and mental health of the nation, and we know our sport has a big role to play in providing an opportunity for outdoor activity as the lockdown restrictions ease.

The guidance we have developed below for our affiliated clubs supplements the Government guidance by covering situations specific to the sport of lawn bowls:

Earlier this week we shared share with you in full our revised domestic competitions programme for 2021, offering our competitive bowlers the opportunity to compete in a Covid-friendly manner.

To provide additional support to enable affiliated clubs open safely, we are working in collaboration with the Bowls Development Alliance (BDA), British Crown Green Bowling Association and Disability Bowls England to develop resources for affiliated clubs under the banner ‘Back to Bowls’.

Bowls’ Big Weekend, taking place over the Spring Bank Holiday of the 2021 season (Friday 28th to Monday 31st May), is our national initiative offering clubs the opportunity to promote our welcoming and socially-distanced sport and attract new members. To ensure that you are the first to receive notification when new material is available, sign-up here.

If your club is not affiliated to Bowls England, please email us at clubs@bowlsengland.com and we can take you through the affiliation process, including connecting you with your County Association. The Club Services section on our website explores all of the benefits and explains how our clubs can make the most of affiliation.

We can’t wait to see you all back on the green!
