Somerset County League SW1
Wellington BC
An astonishing result for the A team yesterday against second placed Williton, our nearest and only rivals for promotion. We were staring down the barrel of a potentially catastrophic defeat when Mark Phillips' and Ken Brown's rinks went down by 7 and 6 shots. Mike Groves' rink still had three ends to play when the others finished and were one shot up. They then extraordinarily picked up a 6, a 5 and 2 shots on the final three ends to turn certain defeat into glorious victory, Wellington winning 64-63. The defeated Williton skip on Mike's rink and several supporters were in tears at the end realising their dream of a rapid return to Premier 2 had died over those fateful three ends.
The 8 points won with Williton picking up 4 virtually guarantees promotion back to Premier 2 for the A team.
No such luck for the B team who suffered a severe 12 0 beating at the hands of Bridgwater B and now face a real battle to avoid relegation back to SW2.
