2026 Jan - Jun

Six members of the band recently attended the 26th  Mid-Winter Brass Band Workshop run by the SWBBA.  They were among 70 delegates gathered from bands across the south west, to create music together under top tutors from the brass band world, who this year were:-

Christopher Bond - professional composer (well known for his compositions/arrangements), adjudicator, Musical Director to GUS Band and composer in residence to the Cory Band.

Tom Smith - Principal Cornet with the Brighouse and Rastrick Band, a tutor with Your Space Music Lessons and a Besson Artist.

Sion Rhys Jones - Principal Euphonium with Tredegar Band and previously seven years with  Cory Band. He is a teacher of both Music and Welsh. Sion has also achieved success conducting the Cross Keys Silver Band.

The musical experience consisted of massed band rehearsals and break out groups culminating with a free to attend concert, presenting the music the participants had worked on over the weekend, including featured solos from both Tom (the delightful cornet solo “Don’t Doubt Him Now”) and Sion (who showed his virtuosity on the technical variations of “Grandfather’s Clock”).  They also joined together to play the beautiful duet “All I ask of You” from the “Phantom of the Opera”.

A fantastic weekend of learning, making music and forging new friendships.
