'The large park (sic - Oakfield) is an excellent open space'; 'a couple of outstanding village green spaces were seen'; 'the small allotment garden is a good example of a well run site'; 'it was evident throughout the village and surrounding area that the village is well cared for with almost a complete absence of litter and graffiti' and 'residential gardens ae generally well maintained and mostly enhance the parish's appearance' ......these are just some of the comments taken from the report of the South and South Easter in Bloom Judge following his visit to score the Parish's entry in this year's SSEiB Competition.

The Parish scored 84 out of 100 points and, as a result, was awarded a Silver Gilt Certificate. Had just two more points been secured it would have been Gold but still a fantastic achievement for the Parish which had entered the Competition for the first time.

The Certificate was presented to Councillor Avtar Sandhu, representing the community and the Council, at a ceremony held at RHS Wisley last Friday.

The Competition is however not resticted to 'Bloom' it also encompasses such community aspects as the Parish's history, heritage, education, community engagement, sustainability, village scene, litter & waste and new habitat & landscapes all of which are features of life in Wilmington and Joydens Wood.

The Chairman, Councillor Stacey Brown, said 'We are truly honoured to receive this award on behalf of the amazing joint working of the community and those residents who voluntarily give their time to support the Parish'. The Chairman also took the opportunity of thanking Mark, the Parish Groundsman, for the pride and respect he takes in keeping areas across the Parish safe, clean and well-maintained for the benefit of the community.
