Currently we have 90 members. The age range is from 27 to 85. Approximately half our members are either in full or part-time work. We welcome new members of any sex, age or creed. All we ask from our new members is that they want to put something back into the community, to make a difference to those in need at home and overseas, and to make new friends. The more of us there are, the more we can do in a troubled world.
Joining Winchester Rotary
Initially you come to a number of meetings to meet other Rotarians and to ensure that you get a good idea of how we operate and who we are so that you can feel at home within the Club. There is then a meeting organised by the membership committee (in advance of this you will have given us a brief summary of you, your family and career). This meeting is largely to provide you with information about Rotary, answer your questions and also see which activities you would be most interested in. Your application is then agreed by the membership.
In all the process generally takes around a couple of months.
There is a cost involved in being a member of Rotary. You should expect to pay a maximum of £50 per month to cover the cost of attending at say two meetings a month from a range of breakfast, lunch and evening meetings. In addition in the first year there will be a joining fee of a little under £100. This covers the basic meetings – there will be additional costs for other and social events. You may also want to get involved in twinning visits with our twin clubs based in France, Germany and India etc.
Once you have joined your involvement will be through working in one-off project teams or committees, and social and sporting groups. These report to an executive of six directors meeting as needed. The executive reports to Council which meets up to 4 times a year for necessary formalities and major decisions.
