Winchfield Parish Council
BRIDGE STRENGTHENED IN PALE LANE
Hampshire County Council carried out strengthening works to the road bridge over the River Hart in Pale Lane during September and October 2017 which involved the complete closure of the lane.
The bridge is a twin-span brick arch which is over 75 years old. Inspection of the arches had identified that the bridge needed to be strengthened to ensure that modern traffic loads can be carried safely.
HCC said it carried out the minimum intervention consistent with the strengthening of the bridge and preventing further deterioration. The appearance of the bridge remains unchanged to road users.
50mph LIMIT ON B3016. Speed limit signs were put up on the B3016 on Friday, October 14, 2016. Unfortunately, although this came after more than 30 years of campaigning by residents and the parish council, the limit stops for drivers from the Hartley Wintney direction just after the Beauclerk Green turning and therefore before the dangerous bend outside Dignity pet crematorium where many accidents have happened.
The issue was raised by residents at the Annual Parish Assembly on May 22, 2017, and the parish council agreed it will continue to ask the authorities to extend the limit. We are grateful for the support in this of our Hartley Wintney ward county councillor David Simpson.
Unfortunately, on the morning of Wednesday, January 10, 2018, there was a serious accident at the entrance to the pet crematorium involving a motorcycle and a car. All the emergency services attended and the 21-year-old motorcyclist was taken by air ambulance to St George's Hospital at Tooting.
