Tree Management; Demesne Mill
2/ Demesne Mill;
Trees here are also growing well. The main stand by the car park is mature and adequately spaced. No thinning is recommended along the river as dense vegetation is necessary there for wildlife. The new plantation seems to be establishing well. However, along the field wall the young trees are becoming enmeshed and inhibited; weaker or damaged specimens should be removed to allow further development of the best and strongest stock. Some have been marked with tape for removal. In the older copse at the end of the picnic area, most are growing well. One dead tree should be removed, but should be cut high up so that the bole remains as a habitat. Other under-developed trees inside the copse should be thinned (about 1:3) at this stage.
